Relaxing Day Date

We all need to set aside time to relax. To pause our busy lives and reconnect with our spouses. This is important for any relationship, to take time, just the two of you. To enjoy each other’s company without the daily distractions of life.

This date day is intended to be a reset, for our minds, bodies, and relationship. Take time to appreciate one another and all the things you love about your significant other.

Do What You Enjoy

The point of this Day Date is to do things that are stress-free! No to-do lists, no errands, no work. Today is a day for fun and connection.

Ignore Your Phones

I really like that Daniel and I spend very little time on our phones when we are together. When we were dating, we always gave our focus to each other and ignored our phones almost entirely. Try to escape your phones as much as you can today, better yet, turn them off. Everyone will be okay for one day. Try it, it’s quite freeing!

Itinerary

Breakfast in Bed

Who doesn’t love breakfast in bed? Of course, the only downside is that someone has to get out of bed to cook it, but the best part is that you get to go right back to your comfy bed to eat it. If you don’t have a serving tray (one with legs that fold out), any tray will do. You can even use a large cutting board to serve your food on.

Keep it Simple

The breakfast should be something you don’t have every day, but shouldn’t take a lot of time. Make a quick omelet or your go to pancake recipe (like this one here). Be sure to remember the coffee, tea, or mimosas to top it all off!

Don’t be ashamed to get something pre-made if you are planning this day in advance. Pastries from the bakery (croissants, scones, muffins, or bagels) go great with some fresh fruit and scrambled eggs. Fluffy ready to eat Belgian waffles (found in the bread aisle or freezer section) can be topped with strawberries, syrup, and whipped cream.

Heads up activity: If you don’t have a romantic playlist, put one together this morning, you’ll want it to listen to later on tonight!

Connect with Nature

Walks can be quite romantic when you’re holding hands and taking in the scenery. Being out in nature is a great way to calm your thoughts, destress, and reconnect with each other. This is the perfect time for reminiscing and talking about anything that comes to mind.

You can also take this time in nature to hike or go for a bike ride, whatever you prefer to do as a couple.

Picnic Lunch

Bring lunch along on your late morning walk. This can be homemade or something that you pick up at the store on the way. Sandwiches and a few sides, along with a little something sweet for a mid-day treat, is all you need.

A small charcuterie board and some sodas make for a simple yet fun snack-style lunch option if you aren’t ready for a full meal. Picnics are perfect before or after a walk in the park or along a pondside trail so you can enjoy the fresh air a bit longer. Just don’t forget a blanket!

Play a Game

Rather than turning on the tv when you get back home, try playing a few games. Spend this time to laugh, joke, and have engage with each other. Consider playing some collaborative games where you play as a team against the game.

Some of our favorite two-player games include: Sequence, Rummikub, 5-Minute Dungeon, and Unstable Unicorns. This game time is also the perfect opportunity to mix up a pitcher of lemonade, tea, or your favorite cocktail to enjoy together.

Order Dinner In

No one is cooking tonight! We rarely eat and out hardly ever order in, so for us this is a nice treat. Call up your favorite take out spot or order a pizza, enjoying dinner from the comfort of your home.

Spa Escape

I’m not meaning a real spa; we aren’t escaping anywhere beyond the walls of our own homes for this one. Run some warm water and take a bath together. Add in some bubbles, bath salts, candles, and a glass of wine. Turn on some relaxing piano music or your own romantic playlist in the background.

Give Each Other Massages

There is so much feeling of love and passion that can be transferred through one’s hands. Connect with each other on a more intimate level this evening. Grab some lightly scented lotion and move those candles and music into the bedroom. Sure, you may be far from a professional masseuse, but I guarantee nothing feels better to your husband than the loving touch of his wife. The point here is to feel close to each other, and nothing does that quite like the sense of touch.

Enjoy the Time

Use today as your couples’ staycation. This day is meant to be a gift to yourselves to reconnect with each other. It is days like this that make us appreciate the small things in life and the company of the one we chose to spend our lives with.
